Cholesterol Control in a single capsule
Vytorin is a combination of two medicines used to treat
high cholesterol. Zetia (active ingredient Ezetimibe) works
by reducing the amount of cholesterol that your body absorbs
from your diet. Zocor (active ingredient Simvastatin) is an
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or "statin".
Vytorin works by blocking an enzyme that is necessary for
your body to make cholesterol. Vytorin is used in combination
with a low-cholesterol and low-fat diet. Keeping your cholesterol
level under control may reduce your risk of heart problems
and stroke. Vytorin is not a cure for high cholesterol, but
may help to control it.

Vytorin reduces the amount of cholesterol (a type of fat)
absorbed by the body and also simultaneously blocks the production
of cholesterol in the body. It is used to reduce the total amounts of cholesterol, LDL
(bad) cholesterol, triglycerides
(another type of fat), and apolipoprotein B (a protein needed
to make cholesterol) in your blood. It is also used to increase the level of HDL
(good) cholesterol in your blood. These actions may reduce
the risk of hardening of the arteries, which can lead to heart
attacks, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease.
